Today, Thursday, the Supreme Committee for Legal Affairs of the Southern Transitional Council held its periodic meeting in the capital, Aden, for the month of January, chaired by Dr. Saad Mohammad Saad, Chairman of the Committee.
The meeting stood before the Prime Minister’s Decision No. (3) for the year 2023 regarding the approval of the decisions and orders of the Supreme Economic Council for the implementation of economic reforms, where the committee expressed its rejection of this decision, and its illegality because it is contrary to the legal foundations and legislation according to which governments are servants of the people and not the people are their servants. The fact that this decision burdened the people by raising the value of the customs dollar to 750 riyals, and this decision catastrophic repercussions led to raising the prices of energy, electricity and gas.
The committee indicated that economic solutions should not be burdensome for the people, but rather by finding solutions with regard to collecting state revenues and harnessing them to provide basic services to the people, and not to use them for unrelated purposes such as the salaries of ministers and the huge number of agents, advisors and embassy staff .
The committee called on the Legal Department of the General Secretariat of the Presidium to take action and file a lawsuit before the Administrative Court to invalidate this decision and oblige the state’s revenue institutions to deposit their revenues to the central bank and close all government accounts with private banks and the exchanges.
The meeting also discussed the general directions of the committee's work plan for the current year 2023, which included a number of legal studies that the committee is preparing, and submitting proposals  to the President of the Southern Transitional Council.
The meeting discussed the needs of the legal cadre in the various bodies of the Transitional Council to qualitative legal courses in the field of legislation and human rights, as well as holding a number of legal scientific activities such as seminars, workshops and panel discussions with the aim of discussing legal developments on the southern national scene.
