The Executive Body of the local leadership in the Transitional Council in Abyan governorate held its first periodic meeting for the month of January, chaired by the head of the Executive Body, Mr. Hassan Mansur Ghaythan Al-Kazmi.
The meeting addressed the most prominent developments in the province, including the resurgence of illegal taxation along the international border in the province.
The council confirmed its rejection of extralegal taxation aimed at dragging the province back to the time before the decisions of President and Commander Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, which called for lifting all such points. The council called for the activation of financial and administrative oversight laws to establish the rule of law and prevent any financial or administrative abuses, ensuring that they are referred to the relevant authorities.
The council also discussed the damages and encroachments on archaeological and historical sites, as well as the activities of excavation and smuggling of artifacts outside the country. It called on the relevant authorities responsible for protecting the cultural heritage, which is being threatened by influential parties, to establish protective measures and security guards to preserve these sites.
During the meeting, a report from the Human Rights Department was presented, in which the Director of the Department, Mr. Alaa Saleh, discussed a range of awareness and human rights programs and training courses in the field of monitoring violations, as well as the efforts made in rehabilitating human rights activists.
