The head of the Executive Body of the local leadership of the Transitional Council in Abyan Governorate, Mr. Hassan Ghaithan Al-Kazmi, discussed during his meeting, on Wednesday, with Mr. Rabie Abdullah Muhammad, Director General of the Office of Antiquities, and the Director of the Tourism Police for Abyan Security, Captain Ahmed Kreidam, the extent of infringements on archaeological areas.
Ghaithan stressed the keenness of the leadership of the Transitional Council, represented by President Commander Aidaroos Al-Zubaidi, President of the Southern Transitional Council and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Leadership Council, who directed the local authority in the governorate to protect those archaeological areas that have become threatened as a result of the obliteration of their landmarks by some influential people.
The meeting stood before tampering, random expansion, and encroachments that affected the most important archaeological and historical areas in Zanzibar District.
In the context of the meeting, the Transitional chief executive officer of Abyan and the directors of the Antiquities Office, the Tourist Police, and the Technical Unit made an inspection visit to Al-Qaro archaeological site in Zanzibar, learning about the damage to the Al-Qaro site, one of the most important archaeological sites in the governorate and the south in general, from attempts to expand within the framework of the geographical area of the archaeological site, excavations, and throwing construction waste.
Ghaithan stressed the need to intensify efforts to preserve and protect the archaeological site and all archaeological and historical areas as a cultural heritage that represents the country’s nobility, identity and history and provides links to the roots of societies and their peoples.
