Mr. Fadi Baoum, a member of the Presidium of the Southern Transitional Council (STC), received today, Sunday, Mr. Edward Jackson, Director of the Office of the UN Special Envoy in the capital, Aden.
During the meeting, Mr. Baoum touched on the rampant corruption within state institutions and the efforts over the past six months to study corruption cases, attempting to find out the truth and hold those corrupt accountable.
Mr. Baoum highlighted that the situation cannot be improved as long as corruption persists and called on the United Nations to sponsor a public anti-corruption conference to find solutions, establish oversight mechanisms, and ensure accountability.
Baoum stressed the need for the United Nations to play a proactive role in combating this serious problem and dilemma.
