Mr. Hassan Ghaithan Al-Kazmi, Chairman of the Executive Body of the Local Leadership of the Southern Transitional Council in Abyan Governorate, on Sunday, during his meeting in his office with the Director General of Zanzibar District, Sheikh Shaye’ Al-Dahuri, discussed the extent of the encroachments that affected Al-Qurayyat agricultural area.

The meeting addressed the absurdity and continuation of developments, the destruction of wells and irrigation channels, and the deprivation of farmers from irrigating their lands from flood water. The meeting discussed the progress of the legal and judicial procedures that stipulated stopping work and developments in the region by influential parties who intended to create housing plans bypassing the circulars of the executive authorities in the governorate prohibiting the transfer of Agricultural lands into residential plans, damage to irrigation canals, and non-compliance by these parties with the law and order.

Ghaithan stressed the importance of standing seriously towards the agricultural area and what the irrigation channels were exposed to, and stopping all plans aimed at eliminating the agricultural area as it is an economic wealth capable of providing food security for the governorate and preserving the cultural heritage in the region, which has become threatened by those parties that seek to obliterate all historical landmarks.
