The Southern Transitional Council described the European Union's statement as negative and disappointing, in a statement issued by the council, which said:

 We in the Southern Transitional Council followed the statement issued by the Council of the European Union on Monday, December 12, 2022, and accordingly the Southern Transitional Council confirms that the reference to the Transitional Council in the statement regarding the unity of the Presidential Leadership Council was in a negative, incorrect and disappointing context.

 The Southern Transitional Council expresses its rejection of any statements or insinuations that would harm the cohesion of the Presidential Leadership Council and breach the partnership that resulted from the GCC consultations, and stresses the need to respect the national and political issues on which the partnership was based, the forefront of which is the issue of the people of the south and their right to independence.
